Giant Bomb is the new Gamespot…just ask Brad and Vinny

June 4, 2008 by Panzer Pev

As many know, Gamespot has suffered a complete collapse since the huge debacle that was the Jeff Gerstmann firing. Since then, almost every popular editor has left Gamespot and with it, all credibility. Not simply content to move on to another gaming website, Jeff Gerstmann and fellow ex-Gamespot editor Ryan Davis have begun to build a Giant Bomb…a new gaming website free from the corporate strings that inevitably lead to Gerstmann’s dismissal.

Today it’s official though, the new Giant Bomb website is going to be everything that people loved about the “old” Gamespot…as the team has welcomed two more Gamespot alumni into the fold. Announced today on the Giant Bombcast, ex-Gamespot employees Brad Shoemaker and Vinny Caravella are official Giant Bomb editors. For anyone that loved the Gamespot of old, this is awesome news. It’s great to see Jeff and Ryan stick it to the corporate dogs that destroyed Gamespot’s integrity and alienated all of its fans. Thanks to some bold resignations and a willingness to risk striking out on their own, these ex-Gamespotters have earned the freedom to talk about video games however they want. The real winners in all this are undoubtedly the readers who have the opportunity to get honest opinions and commentary from editors who have made a stand for journalistic integrity.

To hear the announcement check out the latest Giant Bombcast…it’s always worth a listen!

It will definitely be interesting to see how Giant Bomb weighs up to the big boys – gamestop, ign, etc… it looks promising though.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Giant Bomb. I know I’ll be a member there Day 1, and I’ve always got Gerstmann and Davis’ backs. I just hope it turns out to be everything they’re promising.

Although i do like Giant bomb. I think podcasts will be what i use the site for. On the spot and gamespots corporate backing means they can get to the bigger names andd more indepth look at events like e3 with live feeds.

Corporates do have advantages. I think the person who took over Greg Kasavin after he left at Gamespot was the main reason. He was a business orientated guy and didn’t really like games whereas Greg was and was a new member so didn’t see how Gamespot is different from other businesses which are not as family based as these guys are.

There was a post about it somewhere from Kotuku or somehwere.
